Day 124

he had a drawing of an ear tattooed on the inside of the forearm. this was at easy street records in downtown seattle where a plaid shirted worker was making recommendations to us in the local artists section. vinyls, both vintage and new releases, filled isles and isles of neat plywood shelves, which isn't as contradictory a description as may seem, along with thousands of cds and sections of music memorabilia. i had a beatles mug in my hand at one point, thinking of green tea and coffee and the times where i could use a good mug, but decided against trying to stuff one more thing into my already filled backpack. i have about a quarter of my belongings with me in washington. in a hiking backpack. the rest are in a duffle at a friend's in canada, waiting for the move to fernie.

before the record store, parker and i had picked up an australian friend from camp. the three of us chilled around seattle and at one point took some cool skyline pictures at a location where dozens of tripods and photographers were already at work. after hearing about some columbian coffee house, we drove a few blocks to visit el diablo, where i beat jeremy in checkers. twice. there was a good atmosphere and coffee and an all around good time.

Day 92

hello children. the final week of junior high camp began today leaving one more juniors camp before the youth camp finale. i walked the beach this morning and noticed more pale, fallen leaves had collected at the corners of rock faces and along tide marks. i took the back path up, walking through the place that i'd seen a bear many weeks ago. i was looking for blackberries and wondered if he might be back for the same, but he wasn't. even if he had been, there's now enough blackberries for the both of us. and for the whole camp. and maybe a small army, but this is canada. army?

there are a ton of blackberries bleeding among the green thorns. a fresh, cool breeze floated down the mountain and through the trees. there's still three weeks of camp but summer is starting to slow itself down. the final crew of junior highers are here.

on a complete side note, i've been thinking about the sixties and its music lately. beatles, dylan, cash, hendrix, elvis, etc, etc. what a big decade.

Day 3

i used my red northface raincoat for the first time today. as indecisive and changing as the weather seems to be around here, i noticed how strange it was that the same overcast skies and lazy intermittent drizzle were consistent from the morning until the still-hidden sun faded behind still-grey clouds. then darkness.

today was a good day off. i slept in until lunch and caught a ride down the winding road to crofton where a guy named chris and i got coffee at a tiny shop near the water. the walk back confirmed a strong and growing attraction to the forestry and air of this place. after getting back, i wandered around and took pictures along the grey water and pier and misty forest. a new zealander named tim and i have planned to climb the mountain on thursday and we just got back from wal mart after buying some crackers and canned fish for the hike. i'm looking forward to it. i had a bacon cheeseburger at the mcdonalds inside the store also. three times. payed with a dollar-fifty american currency. three times. to the same girl who couldn't stop smiling about each purchase. three times. i was hungry.

i've developed a routine of listening to the beatles at night when i'm on the computer. right now. this is by no means a new trend, but over the past couple days i've heard more people singing, whistling, and playing beatles' songs than ever before in my life and it's been good.
